In a significant step forward, Nipîy Tu Research and Knowledge Centre (NTRKC) is introducing a mobile laboratory in Fort Chipewyan in late February 2024.
This pilot project aims to support ongoing research in the region by providing localized infrastructure for the three Nations of Fort Chipewyan to conduct a wide range of scientific activities in the community.
Set to be located on land provided by the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation (FCMN), the laboratory will include both a wet lab and a dry lab, as well as work space, two bedrooms and a kitchenette for use by researchers.
This advancement marks a new chapter in collaborative research, one that will deepen the community’s ability to conduct relevant, Indigenous-led research directly in Fort Chipewyan, and advance our ability to improve, promote, and preserve the ecological integrity of the Peace-Athabasca Delta (PAD) and contribute to the health and vibrancy of the traditional ways of life of the Dene, Cree and Métis that live in and rely on the PAD.
Three trucks transporting the mobile lab departed from Chesterville, ON Friday, February 23, and are set to arrive at 120 McDonald Street in Fort Chipewyan the week of February 26th, 2024. Visit us on NTRKC's socials to follow the journey!
